Wedding Thank You Messages: What to Say After the Wedding
Wedding thank you messages for guests, elders, family and vendors, with samples in English, Hindi and Hinglish, and how to send them warmly on WhatsApp.
The last guest has left, the marigolds are drying in a corner, and somebody is still counting the borrowed chairs. In the middle of all that, there is one small task that is easy to put off and lovely to get right: thanking the people who came.
A wedding thank you message does not need to be long or clever. It needs to sound like you, and it needs to reach each person as if it were written for them alone. Below are a few thoughts on when to send it, whom to remember, and some sample messages in English, Hindi and Hinglish that you are welcome to borrow and change.
When to send your thank you messages
There is no strict rule, but a kind aim is to finish within two or three weeks of the wedding. By then the photographs have started to arrive, the family has rested, and guests still remember the evening clearly. Wait much longer and the message begins to feel like an afterthought.
Elders deserve to hear from you first, and ideally in your own voice. A short phone call in the first few days after the wedding, followed later by a written message, means far more to a grandparent than a card alone.
Who to thank
It helps to make a simple list before you begin, so that nobody is missed in the blur.
- Elders. Grandparents, parents, and the aunts and uncles whose blessings carried the day. Their messages should be the most respectful and the most personal.
- Guests who travelled. Anyone who took a flight, a long train journey or a week of leave to be there gave you something real. Say so.
- Those who could not come. Friends and relatives who sent wishes, a gift or a phone call from far away will be glad to be remembered, and a photograph from the day lets them feel included.
- Vendors and helpers. The mehendi artist, the decorator, the photographer, the cook and the staff who kept the chai coming at two in the morning. A short note, and an honest review if they run a business, is a gift they will value.
- The families. The two families who became one, and the cousins who ran errands, tied turbans, managed the baraat and found the missing dupatta. They are often thanked last and least. Try to change that.
Finding the right tone
The best thank you messages are specific. "Thank you for coming" is polite; "Thank you for dancing with Dadi at the sangeet" is something a guest will read twice.
A few small habits help:
- Mention one detail. A gift, a dance, a speech, a long journey, a quiet word of advice. One real memory is enough.
- Match the relationship. A respectful tone for elders, a warm and easy one for friends, a clear and grateful one for vendors.
- Thank people for gifts without naming amounts. "Thank you for your generous blessing" is gracious; a figure is not.

These are starting points. Change the details until they sound like your family.
For guests
Thank you for being with us on our wedding day. Seeing your face in the crowd made the evening feel like home. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.
For guests who travelled
You came such a long way to be with us, and we noticed every mile. Thank you for giving us your time, your company and your blessings. Our home is always open to you.
For elders
Thank you for your blessings, your guidance and your patience through every ritual. Our wedding would not have been the same without you. We hope to make you proud.
For those who could not come
We missed you on the day, but your wishes reached us and we felt them. Here is a photo from the evening so you can see a little of it. We cannot wait to celebrate with you in person.
For vendors and helpers
Thank you for everything you did for our wedding. The flowers were more beautiful than we had imagined, and our guests are still talking about them. We will happily recommend you to anyone who asks.
A few in Hindi and Hinglish
For many families, a message in Hindi or a mix of Hindi and English feels closer to the way they actually speak. For elders especially, it can carry a warmth that English struggles to match.
Chachi, aap itni door se aaye, humein sach mein bahut accha laga. Sangeet mein aapka dance abhi tak sab yaad kar rahe hain. Thank you for everything!
Aap aa nahi paaye, par aapki duaayein humein mil gayi. Kuch photos bhej rahe hain. Jaldi milte hain, mithai pakki hai.

Send it personally, not as a broadcast
WhatsApp makes it tempting to thank three hundred people at once with a broadcast list. Please resist. A broadcast reads like what it is, and guests can tell.
Instead, send each message one person at a time, with the guest's name at the start. It takes an evening or two, but every message lands as a note rather than a notice. For a few very close relatives, a short voice note in your own words is even better.
A photograph makes the message. Choose one picture with that guest in it if you have one: a candid from the sangeet, a family photo from the stage, a moment at the pheras. Send it alongside your note. If you do not have a picture of them, a favourite photo of the two of you is still a warm thing to receive.
If you have a thank you card from your invitation set, send it first and follow with your personal line and the photo. The card sets the tone; your words make it theirs.
A thank you card that matches your invitation
There is something quietly satisfying about a celebration that begins and ends with the same picture. Several designs in our collection include a thank you card as part of the set: the invitation, the events card and a thank you card, all drawn in the same scene and colours. The thank you card comes as part of that design's set, so guests who received your invitation will recognise it instantly when it returns, weeks later, with your thanks.
